"I felt that therapy is for people with “real” issues like anxiety, trauma, or abuse. So, when I found myself now in my 50's in Grainne’s chair, I was waiting for her to ask me what I was doing there. I had been through a considerable amount of self-development work in the previous years but there were certain aspects I wasn’t able to understand or deal with. It left me feeling frustrated and as if I was split into 2 halves, one that made sense to me and that I knew well and another that was alien and kept interfering with my life and my relationships.
One year later I look back, understand the reasons and that I would not have been able to resolve these issues on my own. I needed an objective, independent person to guide me. Grainne was the perfect counsellor for me. She understood perfectly how to communicate with me, how to steer me in directions I might have liked to avoid and gave me space and time to express myself. I appreciated that she let me work things out myself rather than telling me as this provided me with valuable tools and skills going forward.
I no longer feel I have a split personality, I know and understand my feelings, behaviours, and actions, am very content and happy in myself and ready for anything life may choose to throw at me. I think everybody should go to therapy; it would make for a better society for sure."
